Design meetings
I offer a service to help potential clients evaluate their architectural options. The goal is to provide an insight into the basic aspects of your residential construction project before entering into a design contract. This involves up to eight hours of service provided on receipt of a flat fee payment. No obligations or restrictions apply to the work performed. Here is a summary of the services provided.
A visit to your home or building site to discuss the general scope and intent of the project.
Basic measurements and photographs may be taken for future reference.
Basic design options will be discussed at the meeting. Rough sketches will be created to help facilitate the discussion and options. These sketches may include elevations, floor plans, and details.
Once the meeting has concluded you, the potential client, will know the scope and the rough design of your project.
Experience gained from the meeting is applied in preparing a design contract for further consideration.
Preparation These items should be brought to our initial meeting.
Site plan or survey showing the house on the lot. (A plat is usually part of the settlement documents for the house.)
If possible, a copy of the original construction drawings for the house.
Notes on how the house does or does not work for you right now.
Please be aware that a rough design is not the final design and that during the construction document phase of the contracted project some variations may occur. These will of course be discussed before hand to avoid any conflicts.
Client support
I will keep you well informed during the entire project lifespan. This not only helps the project move smoothly but it also helps avoid any surprises or delays.
During the construction document phase you will see your project become a reality by receiving periodic progress sets. Should there be a need for a meeting to discus the drawings or any design changes, that's no problem.
Once the drawings are complete you can then use them to obtain the appropriate building permits, determine materials (if not already specified), and gather bids from potential contractors.
Once construction has started I will work closely with your contractor to help solve any field issues should they arise.
Additional services
You may want additional, specialized services. I can tailor services to fulfill your needs. The work can range from a simple rendering to extensive consulting on complex problems.
Some of the additional services may include but are not limited to: Research & Resources: I can provide guided access to books, catalogs, magazines and web sites.
Style & Materials: Suggestions and advice about materials, fixtures, colors to match period styles.
Architectural Detailing: Prepare sketches and or drawings for specific interior and exterior elements.
Kitchen & Bath Design: Layout and specify kitchens and baths.
Builder support
I'm confident in what I do, technically and in terms of design. My drawings are carefully coordinated and they work in the field. It's important to stay current on methods and materials to ensure efficient operations. My plans are easy to build from and they keep construction simple and economical. The design work, along with coordinated communication with the builder will always compliment the clients and their neighborhoods.
